Helping you to understand how past influences affect your present

I use an integrative model of counselling. This means I am not limited to one way of working, I see you, the client, in your entirety and vary my way of working to suit.

Below is a brief description of some of the modalities, which are blended in our sessions together. No matter the modality, empathy and acceptance is at the core of my work.

Person Centered

Every person has the capacity for personal growth when provided with the right conditions. Rather than being seen as the expert, the counsellor provides empathy, unconditional positive regard and congruence. This helps clients to explore their sense of self and grow in their own unique way.

Relational Depth

Often seen as an extension of the Person Centered Approach, Relational Depth provides a deep and profound connection. This enables a client to access every part of themselves in a safe and nurturing environment. Relational Depth can also be used to explore how the client and therapist relate to each other and see whether this plays out in the client's relationships outside of the therapy room.

Psychodynamic Approach

Our past can have a considerable impact on our current sense of self and way of being. The Psychodynamic Approach aims to explore childhood experiences, identifying current similar patterns or thought processes. The approach also explores transference where feelings from previous significant relationships are projected onto the therapist. Psychodynamic elements can also include looking at defences mechanisms used by clients as well as psychosocial stages of development.

Cognitive Therapy

Previous experiences can impact a person's sense of self, which can affect behaviours, emotions and ability to deal with certain situations. Cognitive Therapy helps you to identify the cause, current triggers and recompose negative thoughts of self.

Transactional Analysis

Quite often experienced as an amalgamation of approaches, Transactional Analysis defines a person's way of being in three states; Parent, Adult and Child. This helps you to understand how you interact with others and how your beliefs can create reoccurring patterns of behaviour.
